This year, Japan National Committee for UNIFEM is celebrating its 15th anniversary, while UNIFEM at the United Nations has just passed its 30th year milestone. I still remember the enthusiasm and passion of the women gathered at the First World Conference on Women in Mexico City in 1975. I was there as a media reporter and witnessed the creation of a women’s fund in the United Nations, responding to a powerful call from hundreds and thousands of women of all ethnicities. Ever since, UNIFEM has worked tirelessly to reduce women’s poverty; end gender-based violence; stop the spread of HIV/AIDS; support women’s leadership. The Japan National Committee, as a supporting NGO for UNIFEM, raise fund and lobby our government in order to contribute to the UNIFEM’s mission. I am happy and proud to be a part of this rewarding challenge to bring about the truly fair and just world.　

UNIFEM's Mission & Mandate

UNIFEM is the women's fund at the United Nations. It helps to promote women's empowerment by implementing innovative projects in more than 100 countries .
